It will be my first day at school! It will be my first day and I have to make a good impression!
I woke up early in the morning, prepared everything needed and went to the school that I am assigned to observe and teach. The name of the school is Budi Mulia Dua Pandeansari Elementary School, it is actually a private school. I was introduced to the students after their morning prayer and they were really surprised about me! I guess the students were surprised because I look like an Indonesian but I only speak English! Some students can speak and understand English so they were asking me a lot of questions about me and the Philippines. There were two students in the school who speaks English fluently, one of them is Nunu, a grade five student who was the first one to talk to me and had a conversation with me, she is actually a daughter of Dr. Wahyu of the UNY.

This day, I stayed at the school for the class observation, Miss Tika (an English teacher) was assigned to oversee or guide me. Mr. Wawan (a Physical Education teacher) was also there for me, he oriented me about the Physical Education program of the school.
This day has been a good start for me. Students talked to me a lot and asking questions over and over again. Miss Tika keeps on apologizing for the students’ annoying actions to me, but it doesn’t matter to me because I understand that it is a normal action of an elementary students.
What I like most this day is the practice of the students to their teachers to pay respect. Every morning, teachers would go to the gate and line up to greet the students who are entering the school campus, it means that the teachers really care for the students in the school. One great practice also that they are observing is that before the students will leave the classroom, teachers would stand beside the door and every student in the room should shake the hand of their teacher before leaving the room, it is done to show respect to the teachers! What a great culture!

Well, this day has been a wonderful experience for me; I chose to have a good impression of the school and the students! Keeping the good impression would give you positive outlook in the future and yes, first impression lasts!
